What is SureSmile?
Gray & Ehrler Orthodontic Specialists is the only orthodontist in Upland certified to offer SureSmile to our patients.
SureSmile braces are custom designed for your mouth with technology that moves your teeth more accurately than traditional braces. Instead of our doctors bending the archwire by hand, a SureSmile wire is custom-shaped by a robot based on 3-D imaging and virtual simulations. Once the wire is inserted, each tooth moves directly to the patient’s ideal tooth position. It’s this precise, smooth movement that enables great results, a more comfortable experience and shorter treatment time.

The Three-Step Process
Step one: Advanced Imaging
SureSmile creates a 3-D computer model of your bite by using imaging technology in order to scan your teeth. The 3-D image can be captured with the OraScanner® or Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT). The scanning procedure is the beginning of your SureSmile treatment.
Step two: Prescriptive Planning
With the 3-D model, our doctors can now see your teeth from any angle and how they fit together. SureSmile Treatment Planning software provides virtual simulation tools that Drs. Gray and Ehrler use to determine the final position of your teeth and the most effective plan for your unique treatment needs.
Step three: Robotic Accuracy
Once your treatment plan is determined, SureSmile directs a robot to bend a shape memory alloy archwire according to your doctor’s prescription. This wire is designed to deliver gentle forces to move your teeth consistently and directly to the desired finishing position.
